Alaska is the largest state of the Union. The area is almost double than the second largest state – Texas. This area is surrounded by the Arctic Circle, the Alaskan Gulf, a marine border with Russia and British Columbia.
Alaska is beautiful wild country where nature is so close to you. Wonderful mountain massifs, vast area of huge glaciers and colorful taiga surround you everywhere. You can meet variety kinds of animals at every step. A personal meeting with female moose in the middle of the city is not an exception here. You can see an American black bear just in the harbor. the sea bay is full of cetaceans, sea otters and other fish, mammals and birds.
Rain forests dominate south and southwest of Alaska. There are mainly Sitka spruce and hemlock, sometimes appear cedar and pine. Trees are thin and have a very unconventional appearance.
The fireweed is very common herb in Alaska. It is up to 230 cm tall herb that has beautiful little pink purple flowers. It blooms in the period from June to September. It creates beautifully colored carpets in the landscape. When we arrived to Alaska, it flourished almost everywhere. At the end of our stay, fireweed carpets completely changed its color. It is an excellent season identifier.
