Hoi An

A romantic town threaded with many ancient alleys, which was added to the UNESCO list in 1999. The centre will captivate you with lots of small shops, the majority of which are represented by tailor’s workshops. There are hundreds of them and in each and every one of them you can have a made-to-measure suit of your own choosing tailored. You will be offered a catalogue full of beautiful models in the workshop, or you may bring your own picture of the clothes you wish to have made. The craftsmen will measure you, twice to be sure, take a photograph of you and then they will set to the task. Everything will be finished and ready the following day. First, you will try the the clothes on and if it fits, you leave the workshop with a high-quality suit for a very reasonable price.

The places of interest include the Japanese Covered Bridge, various old houses, temples and pagodas. Even after the war period, the historical buildings have kept the characteristic features of vietnamese architecture, some also display the japanese and chinese influence. Guided tours are possible in many of the old houses. Every year Hoi An goes through an unpleasant period; the wet season (October-November), when extensive floods occur. On the walls of the old buildings, you may notice signs marking the water level in this year or that.
